Welcome to Backcountry Journeys’ Columbia River Gorge: Waterfalls, Wildflowers, & Seascapes photo workshop, where adventure meets creativity and nature’s beauty is yours to capture. Join us on a journey through one of the Pacific Northwest’s most iconic landscapes, where the Columbia River meanders through towering cliffs, lush forests, and cascading waterfalls. Plus, we’ll spend two nights on the northern Oregon Coast, at one of Oregon’s most famous beaches – Cannon Beach.

Over six unforgettable days, our experienced photography guides will lead you to some of the Gorge’s most scenic spots. From the misty spray of Multnomah Falls to the vivid colors of Columbia Hills in full bloom, this workshop offers endless possibilities for creative exploration and artistic expression. There’s so much diversity to photograph on this trip.

In spring, the Columbia River Gorge comes alive with lush greens and the surrounding hills bloom with balsamroot and lupine – but you have to know where to go! Leave that to our guides who have been photographing the Gorge and the Pacific Northwest for years. We know the icons and the hidden gems.

A big focus of this workshop will be waterfalls and long exposure photography. The Gorge features some of the best waterfalls in the United States, there are 90 waterfalls alone on the Oregon side and the Washington side has some great ones too. We’ll spend time photographing giant falls, small cascades, and everything in between.

And that’s not all – we’ll also take a journey to the coast and visit iconic Cannon Beach, where you’ll have the chance to capture the rugged beauty of the Oregon Coast. With its towering sea stacks and dramatic sunsets, this is a photographer’s dream come true. Cannon Beach is central to many great spots along the northern Oregon Coast. We’ll check out a lighthouse or two and even photograph a hidden beach where a waterfall cascades into the ocean.

This is always a very productive trip. You’ll have the chance to bolster your portfolio with tons of images, from waterfalls to wildflowers to seascapes. There will also be opportunities to photograph Oregon’s Mount Hood with wildflower blooms.

Our Columbia River Gorge photo workshop promises to be an unforgettable experience. So grab your camera and join us for an adventure through some of the Pacific Northwest’s most iconic landscapes!

Harvest has officially wrapped up in the Columbia Harvest has officially wrapped up in the Columbia Gorge, but wine tasting season is far from over!

Fall is one of the most beautiful times to explore Gorge wine country, where golden vineyards, dramatic landscapes, cozy tasting rooms, and incredible wines make for the perfect autumn getaway!

A few fun facts about the Columbia Gorge AVA—the westernmost appellation in eastern Washington and perhaps the most diverse winegrowing region in the state 👇🏻

Named for the spectacular stretch of the Columbia River that cuts through ancient basalt bedrock, creating towering cliffs and dramatic ridgelines, this unique wine region spans both Washington and Oregon.

What makes it so special? The incredible diversity of climate, soils, and elevation, with dramatic changes in rainfall and temperature as you travel from west to east.
To the west, cooler, wetter conditions favor Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
Head east and the landscape transforms into warmer, drier terrain, ideal for bold reds and Rhône varieties.
Some vineyards are even planted on the slopes of an extinct volcano!

Established in 2004, the Columbia Gorge AVA encompasses approximately 191,000 acres and 1,300 planted vines, with 30+ vineyards and nearly 20 wineries on the Washington side!

And the best part? You can experience this incredible wine region right here in White Salmon and the surrounding Gorge communities!

Make a weekend of it! Explore downtown White Salmon, visit local tasting rooms, meet the winemakers behind the bottles, enjoy delicious local food, and take in some of the most spectacular scenery in the Pacific Northwest.

Whether you’re a seasoned wine enthusiast or simply looking for a beautiful fall escape, there’s no better time to sip your way through the Gorge.

👉🏻 Ready to plan your wine country getaway? Head to the link in our bio and read "Wine, Wander, and Stay: Discover the Columbia Gorge AVA" for wineries to visit, places to stay, and inspiration for your next adventure!
