Welcome, White Salmon Acupuncture!
White Salmon Acupuncture began with the desire to collaborate care for patients and with other providers. Michelle and Serena, co-owners of White Salmon Acupuncture, are acupuncturists who utilize bodywork in their treatments. Working with folks that have acupuncture benefits on their health insurance was important. “We saw an opportunity as the Washington side does not have acupuncturists that bill health insurance for a 30-40 mile radius,” explains Serena. They also work with cash-pay patients and those that need discounted treatments.
Chinese Medicine
White Salmon Acupuncture recommends herbs and supplements in addition to lifestyle and dietary modifications. “We aim to expose people to the magic of Chinese Medicine,” said Serena. “One amazing tidbit about Chinese Medicine is that it began from ancient Chinese observing patterns in nature and applying patterns and natural dynamics to the body….Chinese medicine is a natural medicine,” explains Serena. White Salmon Acupuncture chose the Columbia River Gorge and White Salmon for the connections to the natural world surrounding us. “The Gorge is such an amazing place; we are connected to the natural world more than we know,” exclaims Serena.
Future Events
White Salmon Acupuncture is planning on having workshops and sessions where people can come and learn about craniosacral therapy, structures of the diaphragm, Chinese herbal formulas, eating with the seasons, feng shui, and more. Plans are also in the works for an opening party this fall. “The practice is in the process of hiring a massage therapist and hopes to have other providers such as a naturopath or chiropractor,” adds Serena.
Yin Apothecary
Serena and Michelle also opened Yin Apothecary in their retail space. Yin Apothecary features paintings, pottery, sage bundles, moxibustion, in addition to herbal remedies, salves, chapstick, and supplements. “We are excited about growing this year, getting the word out to residents, and figuring out more about the ins and outs of running our business,” said Serena.
Open and Welcome
Serena and Michelle prioritize listening and being attentive with the primary goal to provide White Salmon and surrounding communities paramount care. “I love running White Salmon Acupuncture because we have creative agency over how we operate; we have local paintings for sale, sometimes bring our dogs to work, and have products we use on the shelves,” said Serena.
Serena and Michelle
Serena studied acupuncture because it helped her with Lyme disease as a teenager. Since then, she has fallen in love with the cycles of the body and how Chinese medicine uses different maps to access the body. Bodywork, specifically craniosacral and myofascial release, are two of her favorite treatment modalities.
Michelle studied acupuncture because it helped her with musculoskeletal injuries. Then she discovered the myriad of ailments Chinese Medicine heals! If you have neck pain or back pain Michelle has got your back (no pun intended). Michelle treats primarily by utilizing cupping and moxibustion (heat therapy). Her approach is gentle and balancing.
