Inn of the White Salmon – New Look and Owners!
Inn of the White Salmon is a boutique hotel in the Columbia River Gorge, minutes from Hood River and less than an hour from Mount Hood and all it has to offer!
Located in the quaint and beautiful town of White Salmon, Washington, with its beautiful brick exterior, the 22-room Inn is within walking distance to all the great bars and restaurants in town! In just a few blocks you will find an upscale pub with craft brew, three wine bars, a newly opened swanky cocktail bar and two incredible coffee shops and full service bakery, serving breakfast and lunch!
New Owners – Flo and Nicole Niemesch
The Inn of the White Salmon was previously operated as a hotel and apartment building in the late 1930’s and bought by David and Dennice Dierck in 2007. The Dierck’s immediately hired Flo and Nicole Niemesch to run the hotel. Ready to retire, David and Denise handed the reins over to the couple, who bought the Inn in January of 2024. They quickly began renovations, and gave the Inn a facelift, putting their own unique stamp on the gorgeous building and its grounds, including removing old trees and exposing the front of the brick exterior. Newly poured concrete steps have been added to the entrance, as well as rebranding the logo and signage.
Flo and Nicole’s story began nearly 20 years ago, after years spent backpacking through Europe together. When presented with the opportunity to run this small hotel they jumped at the chance!
The Rooms and Garden
Each of the rooms is equipped with a custom memory foam mattress, complimentary high speed wifi, cable TV, and a mini fridge, as well as an in-room coffee bar. There is wireless internet throughout the hotel, and many of the rooms feature a floating desk. The Columbia Room is a great place to gather and connect and is available for all guests to enjoy. The inviting family room-like space is stocked with books, games, and features a big screen TV. Coffee and tea service is available to all guests in the coffee room near the front desk.
The hotel garden is the perfect place for friends and family to relax and unwind, with outdoor seating set up throughout the terraced landscape. The garden was designed to provide a lush backdrop for guests and visitors, perfect for lounging after a day of work or play! The various shrubs, flowers, and trees were thoughtfully chosen for their contrasting colors and lush foliage, and the hotel patio provides shaded alcoves for guests.
Wine at the Inn
Be sure to ask about their selection of local wine and beer, to enjoy on the garden patio or in your room! Flo and Nicole have some great ideas in the works–one in particular, is a sort of co-op for upcoming winemakers who may not have a tasting room of their own, to showcase their wines. Beginning in late Spring, winemaker Lisa Weisman, who labels under Ridge of Wonders, will be pouring her wines on the back patio on the weekends!
If you’re looking for adventure, within minutes from the Inn, you can choose a myriad of water sports, including kayaking, paddleboarding, kitesurfing or white water rafting–or spend the day hiking or biking one of the many nearby trails.
