Catherine Creek Hike

The Catherine Creek Labyrinth trail runs through Coyote Wall Recreation Site, and connects to the Desert Parsley trail, which continues on to the adjacent Catherine Creek Recreation Site for a 30+ mile network of trails with breath-taking views.  You can access the trail head about 3 miles east of White Salmon.  This is a great hike when you can’t access the high elevation hikes yet in the spring or during winter.   You will find interesting rock structures, oak woodlands and a wildflower diversity like no other spring hike in the Columbia River Gorge.  Don’t miss the natural basalt rock arch, a sacred site of the Chinookan peoples.  If it’s a hot day, cool off at the end with a jump in Rowland Lake!

The Catherine Creek Labyrinth is part of the Burdoin-Coyote-Catherine Recreation Planning Area.  You can choose hikes from 3 miles to 30 miles!  For starters, try the 3 mile (2.9 technically speaking) loop starting at the Catherine Creek trailhead.  You will hike along the Creek which has includes groves or Oregon White Oak to keep you cool on a sunny day.  Visit the Outdoor Project to download this map.  For more fun things to do in and around White Salmon, check out our list of more than a hundred things to do!
