Women Artists of the Gorge
In celebration of Women’s History Month, the White Salmon Arts Council, our White Salmon Valley Community Library, and the Soroptimist International of Mount Adams will present an Art Exhibition, “Women Artists of the Gorge,” the second annual event of its kind.
The opening reception of this amazing Art display will take place at the White Salmon Library on Friday, March 8, from 6:30 to 8:30 PM.
Guest speakers for this event will include Lou Palermo from the Columbia Gorge Museum, Lisa Commander of the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center, and Amy Behrens from the Maryhill Museum.
There are thirty three local women artists who will have their work on display for the entire month of March in the Sprint Baker Gallery, at the White Salmon Library.
The show is very diverse in mediums–including watercolor, oil painting, textiles, collage, photography, pastel, glass mosaic, alcohol ink, collagraph, monoprint and more!
“The work in the show reflects the diversity of the women in our community”, states Kristie Strasen, who has been the primary organizer of the event along with Ruth Schafer from the library.
There is an emphasis on statements from the artists, who were asked to provide insight into their piece to better enhance the viewer’s understanding of their work.
One of the featured artists is Jen Smith, who will be offering up “Chasing the Skyline” done with forest fire charcoal from the Eagle Creek fire of 2017, and the gorgeous flyer art was done by Molly Holmlund, handmade from natural materials, including pokeberry, dead man’s foot puffball, Klickitat sulfur, and sumac.
Library events and programs are open to the public and provided at no cost. (Special accommodations may be requested using the Disability Accommodation Request Form no later than 15 days prior to the event).
