La Laurrien Ceramics

I have been an artist for my entire life. I studied ceramic arts early and developed my craft during my 20s and 30s, having shows and selling my work throughout the Seattle area.

My next iteration, featured opening a restaurant and I got sucked into the creative and mundane aspects of this for the next decade. During this time my art focused on writing, design and layout for menus, space-crafting and management of people.

Following this phase, I traveled widely across the world, spending time in India and Bali over many years. I studied batik in both places and worked with textiles…..plus I practiced painting and photography as my life of travel allowed these mediums to flourish. When at home in Seattle, I was part of a henna body art group and we had a small business doing fairs during the summers for another decade.

Now at my home in White Salmon WA, I am part of an intentional community called Atlan, and I have a lovely studio space in our multi-use shop. Here now, I have been recreating myself as a ceramic artist with a different firing temperature and style. I am continually learning about the new materials, constantly testing glazes and design treatments. I cannot say where this exploration will lead~!

My work that I am interested in sharing currently, has aspects of all that I have done over the years…..I would say that my intention is to bring beauty of form to utility of use, adding decorative design to pieces that can handle additional decoration. I love clay and I love everything about creating vessels. It is my joy, therapy, and a constant source of contemplation.

I do not usually do sets of things as I feel that every piece has a different voice. I prefer loose similarities rather than repetition that is like manufacturing.
