Discover Washington’s Columbia River Gorge Through Art: A Mural Walk in Bingen & White Salmon
Public art has a way of turning everyday spaces into something extraordinary—and here on Washington’s Columbia River Gorge, we’re lucky to have a growing collection of murals that reflect the beauty, history, and spirit of our towns. Whether you’re a traveler looking for something special or a local rediscovering your hometown, the murals of Bingen and White Salmon offer a vibrant and inspiring way to experience the community.
Murals in Bingen
Sun Sun Community Mural
Located on the side of Sun Sun retail shop in downtown Bingen, this mural by Jess Mudgett was created in collaboration with local youth through Color Outside the Lines. It celebrates Bingen’s centennial with a quilt-inspired design that weaves together local history, Indigenous heritage, tugboats, Mount Hood, native plants, and regional wildlife.
For Good and Mad Mural
Right in front of the For Good and Mad boutique, this bold black-and-white mural—also by Jess Mudgett—expresses the strength and creativity of women and the community. It’s just steps from Sun Sun and a perfect stop for photos.
Beneventi’s Mural
Painted by Allison Bell Fox with Arts in Education of the Gorge, this vibrant piece lives on the side of Beneventi’s Pizza. Created on 16 panels of plywood donated by SDS Lumber and installed by Bingen’s Public Works crew, it stands as a true symbol of community effort.
Big Fish Properties Mural (WAGAP Building)
This mural by Janessa Bork was created with help from local youth during a community paint day organized by Color Outside the Lines. Its bold colors and grassroots origins make it a standout work in downtown Bingen.
Sacajawea – Lewis & Clark Mural
Located just west of downtown Bingen along SR-14, this mural by high school student Taniya Roberts features Sacajawea looking out toward Mount Hood. It’s a powerful tribute to the legacy of exploration and the region’s history.
Murals in White Salmon
White Salmon Wildflower Festival Mural
Located in downtown White Salmon, this mural was painted live during the Wildflower Festival by Tina and Rhett Jacobi of Big Water Construction. It celebrates the natural beauty of the Gorge with native blooms, the river, and views of Mt. Hood. Funded by proceeds from the White Salmon Wine Walk.
Marcel Mural
Outside the entrance to Marcel, this colorful work by Molly Holmund was also funded by Wine Walk proceeds. It adds artistic flair to the heart of White Salmon’s downtown scene.
Rheingarten Park Murals
Located near the playground in Rheingarten Park, this joyful mural by Jessica Walendorf reflects the Gorge’s natural charm and the spirit of play. It’s a family favorite and a great addition to any park visit.
Just steps from the playground and farmers market at Rheingarten Park, you’ll find a mural that adds a fresh layer of creativity to one of White Salmon’s most used public spaces. Created by local artist and community volunteer Sally Gilchrist, the mural wraps around the restroom building with whimsical black-and-white illustrations celebrating the park’s lively summer market scene. With imagery of fresh produce, garden tools, and familiar faces, Gilchrist’s work transforms a simple structure into a tribute to local life. The project was made possible through the support of the White Salmon Arts Council and Columbia High School art students, further rooting the mural in the spirit of collaboration and community pride.
