Capture the Winter Light

Photographers love this time of year. The Gorge’s moody skies, low winter light, and early sunsets make for incredible images. Even a simple drive or a walk downtown can reveal a moment worth capturing — fog over the river, frosted vineyards, or twinkling lights along Jewett Boulevard.

Winter Whitewater on the White Salmon River

Adventurous spirits can still enjoy the river during November and December–just be prepared for cold water, changing flows and limited guide trips as winter settles into the Gorge. Our website has plenty of information about our local outfitters.

Sports Fishing

Fishing in the Columbia River Gorge is an excellent opportunity during the winter months. The Columbia River is full of small and large mouth bass year-round, sturgeon (catch and release except for a few marked days of catch and retain) and salmon — chinook and cohoe, walleye, and steelhead. The Little White Salmon River is great for salmon and steelhead. In the Upper Little White Salmon you’ll fish for rainbow and brook trout.
