- Coyote Wall Recreation Area (AKA Syncline) – Just minutes from White Salmon, this area boasts more than 30 miles of trails with spectacular views of the Columbia River and Mt Hood. Trails include: Bitterroot Trail, Coyote Wall Trail, Labyrinth Trail, Little Maui Trail, Little Moab Trail, Old Ranch Road Trail, Raptor Trail, Upper Labyrinth Trail.
- Catherine Creek Recreation Area (7 miles east of White Salmon)– Known for its accessible interpretive trail, views, and blooms. Choose from the 1.9 accessible paved interpretive trail or 2.5 – 30+ miles of trails on the Bitterroot Trail, which eventually connects to the Coyote Wall Recreation Area.
- Dog Mountain (14 miles west of White Salmon) – A challenging but rewarding hike, famous for its golden balsamroot fields in late spring. Also, a great training hike to get ready for summer backpacking. The views at Puppy Point and to the top are world-class.
- Panther Creek Falls – A short but steep hike 34 miles west of White Salmon, leading to a breathtaking multi-streamed waterfall.
- Falls Creek Falls – A moderately easy 6-mile trek 38 miles west of White Salmon with a stunning three-tiered waterfall plunging over 200 feet.
- Hamilton Mountain Trail (Beacon Rock State Park) – Offers sweeping views of The Gorge along with the stunning Rodney Falls – 32 miles west of White Salmon.
- Sleeping Beauty – 2.6-mile out-and-back 35 miles north of White Salmon in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest.
- Lower Lewis River Falls – A scenic cascade nestled in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. Visitors who park in the Lewis River Recreation Area will need a permit from June 15 to September 2. Spring Creek Hatchery State Park (“The Hatch”)

Best For: Advanced kiteboarders

Doug’s Beach State Park
