Welcome to the Neighborhood: A New Stay Option That’s Already Giving Back

We’re thrilled to welcome one of White Salmon’s newest lodging options—and even more excited about how quickly they’ve become part of the community fabric. The team behind this new stay isn’t just opening their doors to guests—they’re opening their hearts to White Salmon.

Last weekend, four Under Canvas team members—who now call White Salmon home—volunteered their time at the White Salmon Wine Walk, helping raise funds for ongoing beautification projects downtown. The event supports the installation of public art, native plant gardens, benches, and murals—projects that make White Salmon a more vibrant, welcoming place for both locals and visitors. It’s the kind of community spirit we love to see from our hospitality partners.

Behind the vision is Matthew Gaghen, CEO of Under Canvas, where he’s helped lead the brand’s expansion and commitment to immersive, nature-based travel. With a background in hospitality and a passion for connecting people to place, Matthew shared his perspective on building a new presence in White Salmon:

“Travel today isn’t just about where you stay—it’s about how you connect. We want guests to feel like they’re not just passing through, but becoming part of something special. And that starts with us, showing up for the community we’re lucky to be part of.”

That commitment is already taking shape, from supporting local initiatives to encouraging guests to explore White Salmon’s wine tasting experiences, restaurants, outdoor recreation and natural beauty. For Matthew and the Under Canvas team, being rooted in the community means building relationships, not just reservations.

As White Salmon continues to grow as a destination for thoughtful, engaged travelers, we’re proud to highlight those who go beyond hospitality and actively contribute to the place we all love. Welcome to the neighborhood—and thank you for being part of what makes White Salmon so special.
