White Salmon Farmer’s Market is Open!
Guest Post by: Kaya Patten, White Salmon Farmers Market manager
The market season is officially underway! There was a great turnout last week and I have no doubt that this will be a fantastic season. This past week I read this article from the USDA about the importance of farmers markets as a community centerpiece, something we may all need a little bit of after the last year and a half.
At this time masks are required at this farmers market. The market is open every Tuesday from 4pm – 7pm in the park.
After picking up some food from the market and stopping at other local jaunts I was able to put the perfect summer sandwich together using a garlic scape carrot top pesto, heirloom tomatoes, fresh greens, salty prosciutto, and a buttery baguette. The prosciutto could easily be substituted with avocado or marinated tempeh for a meatless sandwich. I’ve included the recipe for the pesto below in case you want to incorporate it into your next meal.
This week we will welcome Icebox Bakery, Melchemy Mead, and Hillbilly Farm to the market in addition to welcoming back: A&B Farms, Columbia Gorge Garlic, Columbia Mushroom Company, Pheasant’s Eye Farm, West Balch Ranch, Lowtide Boys Smoked Salmon, Stamboom, Nicole’s Nursery, Robyn Hood Farm, Buttonbabecrafts, OutinNature, Wild Domestics Pottery, and Lois Michele designs.
Farmers Markets are for Everyone
