Gather on a meadow perched atop a glorious peak to indulge in tea making. This 1-hour (approximate) class will dive into the various ways to make tea. We will discuss how to make standard infusions, cold infusions, and decoctions and how to store dried plants and prepared teas.

The focus will be on herbal teas, and the event will take place outdoors at an herb garden. All ages are welcome, and this will be geared toward both beginners and tea enthusiasts alike! Prepare that the location is approximately a 20-minute drive from downtown White Salmon and will start on time. The ground is uneven; please wear appropriate footwear and expect rustic conditions.

Jean Marie’s Garden | Dave and Talia Hammond

Unafraid to jump into a project, the Hammonds are industrious, often experimental, and undeniably passionate about the responsibility they feel to give back to the earth and to people and animals around them. As modern-day homesteaders, they have incorporated traditional wisdom about horticulture with technical innovation to create sustainable stewardship of their land and what it can offer for themselves and others.

The soil runs deep in Talia’s blood as it were. Raised on a farm in Iowa built by her great-great grandfather, Talia spent her childhood summers snapping beans and pulling weeds. After years of self-study, she connected with a local herbalist in the gorge and became enthralled with the possibility of making things from her own fruitful yard. Eventually, Talia enrolled in the Vital Ways Institute in Portland, Oregon, where she continued to expand her knowledge and became a teacher for the Herbalist Certification Program. She is also attending school to become a nurse. When the Hammonds decided to open their property for glamping, Talia found a passion for the art of “innkeeping” as strong as her passion for cultivating plants. Talia handles general management, lodging, sales, and field work —all with her kids in tow.
